We saved some space in our garden beds and decided to plant carrots, since they can go in mostly year-round here and are so fun for little ones to pull up. However, the tiny seeds are not easy for small hands to plant. So we mixed a spoonful of carrot seeds in a dish of playground sand and gave the baby her own dish of sand to play with.
We drew shallow grooves in the soil a few inches apart and sprinkled the sand in them. The white sand in contrast to the dark soil also makes it easier to see where you’ve covered.
