Natural Dyes // Feb 3
Natural Dyes // Feb 3
Transform your home into an oasis and gathering center. Our Eco Basics workshop series is geared for you to build a practical toolkit of D.I.Y. urban homesteading skills such as: container gardening, soil building, fermentation, natural dyeing, weaving, canning and much more.
In February’s Natural Dye workshop, we celebrate clean waters and clean living by exploring how we can create a rainbow of color naturally using plants, minerals, and even animals.
This workshop is a basic introduction to natural dyes with a focus on cultivating local plants in our own gardens as well as using some unexpected sources of color found right around us. All students will take home a naturally tie-dyed bandana in addition to learning:
The hands-on basics of the dyeing process from foraging to preparing the dye vat
How to use mordants and modifiers to fix and change color
Which dye plants you can easily grow in your own garden
