Make A Flower Petal Necklace

With just a fresh blossom or two, you can add a splash of color to any outfit by making your own flower petal necklace. Flower threading is a soothing D.I.Y. with just enough challenge to keep it interesting. Even younger children can accomplish this project with a bit of guidance.

You’ll need:

String or embroidery thread

Scissors

A hole punch

A few gathered flower blossoms and assorted leaves. Think: large for petals, small for leaves

Optional: a large-hole children’s needle

Directions:

To start, take a walk around your neighborhood to respectfully forage a small handful of leaves and flowers.

These necklaces also give a great second life to a leftover Mother’s Day bouquet. A little aging on a petal adds beauty to the necklace!

Next, snip a length of string that can easily fit over your head when tied.

Punch holes in petals and leaves.

Use a large-eyed needle or just your string to thread petals in a design that makes you happy. Our kiddo ditched the needle and went for her own stringing method.

Tie in the back.

Wear immediately.

Goes with EVERYTHING.

Variations:

  • Cut flower and petal shapes out of felt instead of using natural ones.

  • With older kids and a longer string, you can leave stems on and try tying the flowers on instead of threading.

  • Make a nature weaving by using a simple cardboard loom and weaving your findings into a tiny tapestry.
